What do Chicago, Boston and Savannah all have in common? They may be unique in their culture and history – but in March, they are also known as three of the best places in the U.S. to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. It can be debated for hours which town has the liveliest parade, friendliest pubs or tastiest corned beef and cabbage. What about home affordability?

Hoping to provide potential homebuyers interested in moving to one of these cities with a little “luck of the Irish,” Coldwell Banker identified the most affordable place to settle down and celebrate this festive holiday, using data from the most recent Coldwell Banker® Home Price Comparison Index conducted in September 2009. Below is the apples-to-apples comparison of similar 2,200 square foot, four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath homes in the three cities:

  1. Savannah, GA: Average Home Price: $263,250
  2. Chicago, IL: Average Home Price: $768,333
  3. Boston, MA: Average Home Price: $1,337,578

Chicago may win for the greenest river, but Savannah took home the prize for least expensive homes, as noted in their local news outlet, Savannah Now. And while Boston claims to be the most Irish city in the United States – it certainly comes at a price! Of course, Savannah, Chicago and Boston are not the only places to buy an Irish-inspired home. On coldwellbanker.com, you can find:

  • Almost 40 homes listed with “Irish” in the street or road name
  • Another 40 homes on streets named “Shamrock”
  • 161 homes for sale in Dublin, OH
  • And for those who love a good Irish beer, one special listing in Poulsbo, WA on “Guinness Place”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
