Real Estate Marketing = World’s Best Cup of Coffee

I  love Elf.  Great movie and arguably the best movie that Will Ferrell carried on his own. Wedding Crashers was great, as was Old School, but he wasn’t the star in those films.  Anyway, I digress…

I was thinking of that movie while  viewing a competitor’s video where they took some major liberties with the facts.

#1 on google search was one such claim.  I laughed as hard with that one as I did when the raccoon attacked Buddy the Elf in the forest.  Anyone with a PC, laptop or 3G phone can see they are wrong.  The Google page visual they used to “prove” the point was doctored more than most Hollywood stars and they had no “source” or reference to the claim.

So do they expect buyers or sellers to run into their office and scream, like Buddy,  “you did it!…congratulations!”?

4 or 5 more unsubstantiated claims followed, as if anyone would believe them just because they were edited in a video.  And this company isn’t alone in puffery.  Many of my competitors seem to run a little loose with the facts.

I think awards can be great in telling a story.  Coldwell Banker ® Real Estate’s ability to service your home buying needs can be demonstrated through our receiving the J.D. Power and Associates Award for “Highest Overall Satisfaction for Home Sellers among National Real Estate Firms.”  We won it in the worst year in real estate when it was very hard to please someone selling a house.  But we’ll tell you exactly what that award means, when it was given, how many people filled out a survey, etc. (see below for full disclaimer!).   Then you can decide if it’s important to you…which is all that matters.

So, (Home) Buyer (and Seller) BEWARE.  If they can’t back it up…it probably ain’t true.

Coldwell Banker received the highest numerical score among full service real estate firms for home sellers in the proprietary J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Home Buyer/Seller StudySM.  Study based on 3,138 total evaluations measuring 5 firms and measures opinions of individuals who sold a home between March 2008 and April 2009.  Proprietary study results are based on experiences and perceptions of consumers surveyed April-June 2009. 1. Hey, what do you know! If I type in my name and city I come up #1 in google! ::sigh::

With enough money and the right staff anyone can come up in Google. The real question is what content and engagement opportunities does one offer when I arrive at your page.
